Capacity Building

Capacity Building

Lack of capacity was an important reason for BT sector ‘under development. Capacity building has remained a continuous priority of the Programme. Since the inception of SBTPO in 2010, More than 200 short training activities conducted since 2010 to gear the workforce to take up the new challenge. Activities were organized in different cities in coordination with the respective provincial programmes and other partners. Majority of these trainings were facilitated by the international experts who came on short term assignments. Selected RBCs staff was also sent to Iran for training on advanced techniques.

For long term training and education, a curriculum was developed with extensive national consultations. This curriculum covers training needs of doctors, nurses, technologists & BB inspectors. In the recent past, universities initiated MS programme in Transfusion Medicine (Baqai University, Dow University); and also BS MLT syllabus now includes immune-haematology as a mandatory subject.

Since the operationalization of the RBCs, the new infrastructure has become the hub of training activities. And SBTP is regularly organizing a number of training activities for all the different levels of workers in the RBCs, all of them reported in the monthly e-newsletters.
