Lack of capacity was an
important reason for BT sector ‘under development. Capacity building has
remained a continuous priority of the Programme. Since the inception of SBTPO
in 2010, More
than 200 short training activities conducted since 2010 to gear the workforce
to take up the new challenge. Activities were organized in different cities in
coordination with the respective provincial programmes and other partners. Majority of these trainings were facilitated by the
international experts who came on short term assignments. Selected RBCs staff was
also sent to Iran for training on advanced techniques.
For long term training and
education, a curriculum was developed with extensive national consultations.
This curriculum covers training needs of doctors, nurses, technologists &
BB inspectors. In the recent past, universities initiated MS programme in
Transfusion Medicine (Baqai University, Dow University); and also BS MLT
syllabus now includes immune-haematology as a mandatory subject.
Since the operationalization of
the RBCs, the new infrastructure has become the hub of training activities. And
SBTP is regularly organizing a number of training activities for all the
